The Veterans Administration offers 2 different grant programs for housing adaptation. The first is for veterans in wheel chairs who need special adaptation for their home. The other adapted housing program is intended to help blind veterans or those who have lost both hands.
Low income families can receive a 1% interest rate on a loan to improve or repair their rural home from the Rural Development and Housing Agency (part of the USDA).
Almost all cities and counties provide direct grants and/or financial help to repair your house. If they do not there are many local organizations such as the State Housing Authorities, Community Housing Action Groups and your local Habitat for Humanity that provide financial help.
This vast grant program covers a wide range of home improvements, repairs and reconstruction of owner occupied homes. It uses various financial means such as grants, deferred-payments loans, no-interest loans and interest loans.
It can sometimes be hard to receive a loan for home improvements. This grant program allows you to receive a home improvement loan by having HUD pay the loan insurance to your bank.
