Government grants programs for housing cover almost any need. The main source of funding for housing grants is HUD (Department for Housing and Urban Development, a Federal agency). Most HUD grants are offered locally by the local HUD offices or in some case HUD partner with local community groups and companies to provide its services. Make sure to also verify programs at your state housing agency to see if they offer the home and housing grants you are looking for (see below for a list of all states housing agencies). Most housing grants come in the form of “indirect” grants. This means the government doesn’t give you money directly BUT they can help you save a lot and achieve your housing goals. For example, you could get a lower interest on your mortgage when HUD insures it for you. The save money can then be used for something else.
